Beginning with 1811 and ending with 1909, these records came from the Schuylkill County Courthouse and provide death records for individuals which may not have been recorded anywhere else. Unfortunately the age at the time of death was not recorded.
A large portion of the deaths occurred in the mines or on the railroad as this was the period of the greatest activity in the Anthracite coal mining industry.
Entries include: date of inquest (death generally occurred a day or two earlier), where held, name of deceased, cause of death, and coroner.
It includes well over 11,000 entries including many immigrants (primarily Irish and later into the 1800’s there was an influx of Eastern European (Poland, Czech, Lithuantians, etc.) as well as Italians. Surname index.
