A historical novel of early Western Pennsylvania. During the spring and summer of 1784 Sarah Hunter and John McBurney traveled over the Allegheny Mountains to the newly formed Washington County of Pennsylvania. The story of their journeys, and the life they forged there, tells the early history of Western Pennsylvania and the people who were a part of establishing civilization there. It is based upon family tradition and historical fact, woven into a novel that presents a personal account of events in Western Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. Included is the family tree of four generations of the McBurney family.
