Early Landowners of Pennsylvania: Atlas of Township Warrantee Maps of Fayette Co., PA
By: Sharon and Angus MacInnes
Book #518. ISBN#1-55856-430-6. This atlas brings to light one of the most invaluable new tools for researchers of western Pennsylvania: Township Warrantee Maps of the tracts which the Penn family, and then the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, sold to the first settlers of Fayette County. Starting in 1907, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commissioned draftsmen to draw connected maps from the original deeds of the earliest purchasers of tracts; they completed about 1/3 of PA counties before the project came to an end. This treasure trove of maps is housed in the Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg and is now being brought to researchers in this Early Landowners of Pennsylvania series. The tract maps show the outlines of the metes and bounds of the original tracts sold by the Penn family, and later by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to the first settlers of Fayette County; names of the warrantee and patentee; name of the tract; dates of the warrant, survey, and patent; and the patent book and page number where the tract is registered. Each chapter contains the map of the township showing its tracts (reduced to 8.5 X 11 size), followed by a chart containing all data on each tract in alphabetical order by the name of the warrantee. The chart also shows the coordinates where the tract will be found on the township map preceding the chapter. Numerous footnotes from a variety of sources document further information on pioneers and some successive owners, as well as family relationships in some cases. [A slightly different version of these Township Warrantee Maps was published in the third volume of the Horn Papers which has long been out-of-print.] In addition to documenting the first landowners of Fayette County, the atlas can often reveal family relationships or clues to possible relationships since relatives usually congregated near one another. Secondly, since people usually moved in groups, tracking sets of families and neighbors as a whole can frequently suggest routes of migration. Finally, later owners of these tracts can be traced back to the exact location of their plat by following their transactions through deed and will books. In some cases, names on the Township Warrantee Maps are the only record that certain people actually existed. This atlas of Fayette County is the third volume in a series of approximately 28 volumes that will eventually cover all of the counties for which Township Warrantee Maps exist. Everyname Index. Four-color laminated cover.

Early Landowners of Pennsylvania: Land Tracts Transferred from Virginia to Pennsylvania Jurisdiction 1779-1780 - Second Edition
By: Sharon Cook MacInnes, Ph.D.
ISBN#978-1-55856-423-7. Were your early PA settlers on the frontier before the boundary between Pennsylvania and Virginia was settled? This book is an updated transcription of an original notebook which documents the chronological transfer of land tracts after the Mason-Dixon Line settled the boundary dispute between Virginia and Pennsylvania. At that time, Pennsylvania took over all of the land that had been sold by Virginia to settlers, and surveyors recorded these transfers in this notebook. The tracts are in what are the counties of Washington, Fayette, Greene, Allegheny, and part of Beaver today. This transcription was made from the original notebook at the Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg. An earlier transcription was published in the Third Series of Pennsylvania Archives (Vol. III, pp. 483-573) in 1894 under the tutelage of William Egle. Unfortunately, there are some problems with the transcription printed in Pennsylvania Archives: some of the entries listed in the original notebook were omitted; many of the names were not transcribed exactly; and there is no alphabetical index in the 1894 printing. Another omission is that hundreds of annotations have been added in the margins of the notebook in the 110 years since the transcription was originally published. The present volume is a long-needed revision of the 1894 edition by Egle, complete with the following changes: all missing entries have been added; all names have been transcribed exactly as entered in the notebook; all of the marginal annotations have been included; and an every name index has been incorporated. Additionally, every effort has been made to identify the location of the tracts which have no entry in the Where Situate column. Maps have been added of the waterways to show the approximate location of the tracts. This book is divided into two sections: (1) Tracts by geographical location and (2) Transfer of tracts in chronological order. Some of the information has been rearranged for clarity purposes for this edition. Every name index. Four-color laminated cover.

Fayette County and the Family Ties that Bind; the search for Annie Kaiser Lee, who was murdered in Uniontown, Pennsylvania in 1926
By: Annette Kaiser Haymon
ISBN#1558562826. All Annette really knew about her grandmother?s fleeting life was that it ended in tragedy. She knew even less about genealogical research and, in fact, considered it to be an exercise in boredom. However, she has become infinitely more knowledgeable on both subjects and gives an account of her enlightenment in this book. She remembered her father, William Edward Kaiser, would chide her or any of her siblings when they tried to get out of helping with chores: "Do it and be glad you have a mother. My mother was murdered when I was 15." This childhood scolding provided a starting point for Annette?s search. Annie?s grave is somewhere in a forgotten and overgrown Green Lane Cemetery in Brownsville. The family was poor and probably could not afford a headstone. Annie?s memory now lives on in the pages of this book. Photographs. Interesting reading. Local history. No index.

Index to Warrantee-Patentee Records of Westmoreland County, PA
By: Patricia Duff
ISBN#1558562923. This index was compiled by two members of the Westmoreland County Tax Mapping Department. They used survey books, road books, deeds and maps to make it as accurate and complete as possible. Permission to reproduce this information in book form was granted to Patty so that the records might be more accessible to the public. Warrants in these records cover the mid-1700s to about 1800 period. Westmoreland County was formed from Bedford County in 1773. Bedford County was formed from Cumberland County in 1771. For this reason, patents listed in Book AA are possibly housed in either of these two counties. (The state land office was not opened until 1769.) Patents in these records cover the period 1773 to the early 1900s. Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties were formed from Westmoreland County, thus, some of the records from Westmoreland County are now located in these counties. These early land warrants and patents are overlayed on modern maps so the exact location of the land can be determined. Maps can be purchased from the Westmoreland County Tax Mapping Dept. The maps show the location of the land, number of acres, and date of warrant or patent. A fold-out ?Frontier Map? showing a grid work of the map numbers is included in the book.
