The PA Archives was published by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Volume XVIII of the Third Series contains various tax lists for Berks County including the Proprietary Return for 1767 and 1768; Register of Property for 1779; Return of Assessment for 1780, 1781, and 1784; Assessment of Taxes for 1785.
A section for Schuylkill County was a part of Berks County during this time period. Parts of the present day counties of Montour, Columbia, Northumberland, Union, Lycoming, Snyder, Clinton and Centre were a part of Berks County up until 1772. Tax payers are listed by township and returns list the number of acres, horses, and cattle. With the use of the Retrospector Viewer you will be able to search for any tax payer listed.
