History of the Martel, Martell, Martelle Family, 1587-2003

History of the Martel, Martell, Martelle Family, 1587-2003 Author: Dick McQuisten, Editor-in-chief, Patricia Gillies, Assistant Editor, Lynn C. Harper, Lead Researcher
Available after 18 long years of research of a multi-volume genealogical history of this family surname, this three-volume set is a must for the Martel or allied family names. This family began its history from one Frenchman by the name of Honore Martel Lamontagne (longsawyer) born in 1632 in the parish of Saint Eustache near Paris. He moved to Quebec, Canda in 1665 as a soldier with the companies who followed the Marquis of Tracy. He discovers all the difficulties of living in this new land during the first three years he spends in New France. He also discovers that he has all the reasons to hope to build his future in this country so he decided to remain. In this country there are few available women so the men must rely on help from France where women received grants from the king to come to New France and marry the settlers. Marguerite L'Admirault, one of the King's Daughters arrived in Quebec in 1668. She was born in Saint Germain L'Auxerrois, Paris, in 1645. From this marital union on November 26, 1668, fourteen children were born, eight sons and six daughters. Ten of them married and nine of them produced at least 75 offspring. In this research only the lineage for 3 of these offspring has been completed. As you might expect, there are inter-connections with many other of these discharged soldiers who remained in New France and who married other of the King's Daughters.

From these three offspring, 17 generations later, the ancestral history has produced several thousand Martel(l)(e) relatives and allied families. More than 19,000 individual names is considerably more comprehensive and a much better source than Mary (McGuire) Martell's original book, Memoirs: Our People The Indians, which was published in the 1950s. (This book is also now available in reprint.) The Martel family history includes personal data, biographical information and photographs galore!

Allied families closely connected by marriage into the Martel/Martell/Martelle families are: ALBAUGH, ANDERSON, ANTAYA, ARSENAULT, ASSELIN, AUBUCHON, AUPRY, AUSMAN, AVERTY, BABINEAU, BANHIAC, BARDON, BARR, BARRETTE, BARTZ, BEBEAU, BECHTEL, BECWAR, BÉDARD, BEAN, BERNASH, BERUBE, BENOIT, BIRET, BLAKE, BOARDMAN, BOCK, BOIS, BOISVERT, BOLDUC, BONET, BOUCHER, BOUDREAU, BOUDROT, BOURBEAU, BOURQUE, BOUSQUET, BOWSER, BRANCHAUD, BREUER, BRODERICK, BURKE, BURNS, CAHALAN, CAMIRE, CARDINAL, CAYA, CHAILLÉ, CHAMFRAIN, CHAPUT, CHARLAND, CHARTIER, CHASSE, CHASTENAY, CHAUVET, CHAUVIS, CHENEVERT, CHERRIER, CLARK, CONWAY, COOROUGH, CORMIER, COTÉ, COTA, COURIER, COUSINEAU, COUTURE, CUFF, DARR, DEAL, DECKER, DeGRANDPRE, DeLANEY, DeLAVOYE, DENEAUX, DeRUSHA, DERUSHE, DesFORGE, DesROCHERS, DesROSIERS, DeYOUNG, DOUCET, DuBOIS, DUBÉ, DuCHARME, DuFRESNE, DuHAIME, DUROCHER, DUYON, DION/HEON, DREW, DROUIN, EATON, EGAN, ELVERT, EVANS, FAFARD, FERNETTE, FEUERHELM, FIELDER, FOUGERE, FORCIER, FOREST, FORTIER, FRANK, GAGNIER, GARAND, GARANT, GAUTHIER, GAVIN, GENTES, GEOFFROI, GIARD, GILLIES, GILROY, GILSON, GIROUARD, GOYECHE, GROINIER, GRAVELLE, GROU, GROUERT, GOULET, GOYECHE, GRANT, GREMORE, GROU, GROUX, GUILLOT, HAFER, HALL, HALVERSON, HAMMEL, HAMMELL, HAWES, HEBERT, HÉBERT, HENDRICKS, HENNESSEY, HENTGES, HERMANN, HERSTEIN, HESS, HOUDE, HULSE, HUOTE, JOSSE, KASTER, KELLY, KERNAN, KING, KIRK, KRAMER, KUNKEL, KURTH, LaBONNE, LACLIAR, LaCHAPELLE, LaFRANOIS, LaFONTAINE, LANDRY, LANGUEDOC, LANGLOIS, LaPOINTE, LaPORTE, LARRIVIER, LaRONT, LaTRANCHE, LaVACHE, LaVOIE, LeBLANC, LeCLERC, LeFEBVRE, LeGENDRE, LEMAY, LEMIRE, LePAGE, LeROUX, LESSARD, LeTOURNEAU, LEWIS, LIONAIS, LONGUÉ, LUCAS, LUPIEN, LYONAIS, LYONS, MAILLET, MANNING, MANSEAU, MARCHAND, MARTEL, MARTELL, MARTELLE, MATTHEWS, MAUGER, MEEHAN, MERCIER, MEUNIER, MacDONALD, MacISSAC, McCOY, McDONALD, McGARRY, McGEHEE, McGOVERN, McGUIRE, McQUISTEN, MEEHAN, MEYER, MOHN, MOMBOURQUETTE, MOONEY, MOREL, MORIN, MORISSEAU, MUELLER, MULLARKEY, MYERS, NOLAN, NYLUND, O'BRIEN, O'NEILL, OATES, OCENOSAK, PANKA, PASTOUREL, PATE, PAQUET, PAQUETTE, PELLITIER, PERRAULT, PERUSSE, PETERSON, PICARD, PINEL, PINEAU, PLAMONDON, PLANTE, PLOURD, PROULX, PROTZMAN, PREW, RANCON, RANGER, RATÉ, RAU, RENAUD, REVOIR, RICHER, RICHARD, RICHAUME, RITTER, ROBINSON, ROGNON, RONDEAU, ROSE, ROULOIS, ROY, RYAN, SAMSON, SAMPSON, SHEA, SHIELDS, SIMONEAU, SLABY, SMITH, STEINBACH, STRUB, ST.
