A second CD in this series of First Landowners, it contains the indexes to all people who actually were granted final title from colony or state authorities. In many cases, they are not the same individuals who actually applied for the land (termed warrantees). Receiving a patent was the final step in transferring land tracts from the Penns or the state to private owners. The patentees were actually the people who received the final title to the land. Many times the warrantee is the same person who patented the land, but often the land was patented to a different person. Once the land was officially titled to the patentee, he or she was free to sell or transfer the land and those transactions are found in the deed and will books at the county courthouses. It covers the period 1684-ca1957.
