Volume XIX of the Third Series of the Published Pennsylvania Archives contains tax lists for Northampton and Northumberland Counties Pennsylvania. The tax years covered in the Northampton County tax lists are 1772, 1785, 1786, and 1788. The tax years covered in the Northumberland County tax lists are 1778, 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, 1783, 1784, 1785, 1786, and 1787.
Taxpayers are listed by townships. Oftentimes the number of acres, horses and cattle are also itemized.
For the most part, during this tax period, Northampton and Northumberland counties contained the present day counties of Bradford, Cameron, Carbon, Clarion, Clinton, Columbia, Jefferson, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, McKean, Monroe, Montour, Pike, Potter, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Snyder, Tioga, Union, Wayne, Wyoming, and parts of Armstrong, Centre, Clearfield, Forest, Indiana, Mifflin, Schuylkill, Venango, and Warren.
