The History of Bedford and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania, Volume I, II and III was published in 1906 under the editorial supervision of William H. Koontz. This three volume set will assist researchers in learning more about the people who settled and raised their families in Bedford and Somerset counties during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The first permanent settlement in Bedford County, Pennsylvania was established in 1750. Volume I of this three volume set is devoted entirely to the history of Bedford County. Included in this volume are sketches from everyday life taken from period newspapers, lists of Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers, lists of charter members and officers of secret societies and churches, along with genealogical sketches of Bedford County, Pennsylvania residents.

Somerset County was formed in 1795 from Bedford County, Pennsylvania. The earliest settlers ventured into Somerset County, Pennsylvania in 1768. Volumes II and III are devoted to the history and people of this county. Included in these two volumes is a wealth of genealogical information, along with the history of the formation of Somerset County and the genesis of the townships. Search the many lists contained in volume II including lists of the early Somerset County taxpayers for 1783-84, lists of Civil War soldiers, and lists of secret societies and churches and their charter members in just seconds. Volume III contains well over four hundred family biographies for Somerset County. These biographies oftentimes identify the county or country from which the family came originally.This CD contains a powerful search tool and images of the original pages from the following books:
